VOTER REGISTRATION

All U.S. citizens, who are at least 18 years of age, are residents of the state, and are not under felony conviction, are eligible to vote in New Hampshire. To register in person, appear before your local voter registrar for your town or city. To register by mail, obtain a voter registration application card from your town or city clerk's office or the Secretary of State's office. Your completed application must be returned to your town or city clerk's office. If you miss the voter registration deadlines listed above, New Hampshire also allows its residents to register to vote in person at the polls on Election Day. If choosing to register at the polls, be sure to bring a valid form of identification that includes both your name and address.

ABSENTEE BALLOTS

If you know you will be unable to make it to the polls on Election day, be sure your voice is heard by voting via absentee ballot! To obtain your ballot, you must request an absentee ballot application form. To obtain this form, call or write to your city or town clerk, whose office is usually located at city or town hall. Upon receipt of your completed application, you will be mailed you an absentee ballot. In order for your vote to count, your completed ballot must be received by your town or city clerk prior to the close of the polls on Election Day. You can also vote absentee in person at the town clerk's office the day before the election.

PRIMARY ELECTIONS

New Hampshire hosts an open primary election system, which means that all registered voters can vote in the primary election. Voters who are registered with a particular party, however, must vote in the primary of the party with which they are affiliated. Unaffiliated voters can vote in either of the party primaries, but not in more than one. If requesting an absentee ballot for the primary election, you must indicate which party's ballot you need.
